Safeguarding Policy
Effective Date: May 22, 2024
Endometriosis Excision for All is committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all individuals who engage with our organization. This includes applicants, volunteers, board members, healthcare partners, and donors. While our primary mission is to provide financial support for those seeking endometriosis excision surgery, we also recognize our broader responsibility to protect individuals—particularly those who may be vulnerable—from any form of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or harm.
This policy outlines our approach to safeguarding adults and minors, and reinforces our commitment to ethical, respectful, and trauma-informed practices.
Vulnerable Adult
In the U.S., a "vulnerable adult" generally refers to a person aged 18 or older who, due to physical or mental conditions, is unable to protect themselves from abuse or exploitation. This includes individuals with chronic illnesses, disabilities, or those facing financial hardship.
Minor
A person under the age of 18.
Abuse
Abuse may include physical, emotional, psychological, financial, or sexual harm, as well as neglect, discrimination, or exploitation. Abuse can occur in person or online and may be perpetrated by individuals inside or outside the organization.
This policy applies to all individuals involved in the operations of Endometriosis Excision for All, including:
Staff (if any)
Volunteers
Board Members
Contractors or partners
Medical professionals affiliated through referrals or collaborations
All are expected to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and to report any concerns immediately.
Our Commitment
We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Endo Excision for All is committed to:
Promoting the safety, dignity, and rights of all applicants and stakeholders
Creating an environment where concerns can be raised safely and respectfully
Ensuring all individuals interacting with vulnerable populations are aware of their responsibilities
Reporting safeguarding concerns in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines
Cooperating with law enforcement and relevant agencies when needed
Safeguarding Procedures
All volunteers and board members receive an onboarding overview of this policy and guidance on reporting concerns.
Background checks (including criminal checks where appropriate) are conducted for individuals in direct contact with applicants or sensitive personal information.
Concerns about abuse, exploitation, or neglect must be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (see Section 6).
If there is immediate danger or harm, individuals are encouraged to call 911 or report to local law enforcement.
Any report received will be documented, reviewed promptly, and referred to the appropriate agency when necessary (e.g., NJ Department of Children and Families or Adult Protective Services).
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Endometriosis Excision for All is:
Nicole Notar, Founder and Chairman of the Board, Endometriosis Excision for All
