In Joella's Words
“Three times, the deserts of the Javelina Jundred forced me to face my demons: Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, and the thought of never finishing the race. This fall, I'm coming back for a 100-mile celebration run to raise awareness for the 190 million women with endometriosis. I'll see you in the desert.”
Meet Joella
From training for ultras to prepping for surgery
Joella lived with endometriosis and adenomyosis for more than 30 years before she had the two invasive surgeries her body had been asking for. For 16 years she worked as a psychotherapist, empowering other people to listen to themselves — and the desert eventually taught her to do the same.
“My reckoning in Javelina was a turning point. I followed the signals of my body and pivoted from training for ultramarathons to prepping for surgeries. And now, I'm back to training for ultras — and the chance to prove that chronic illness does not get the final word.”
This weekend she returns to the Arizona desert for a 100-mile celebration run, raising funds for Endo Excision for All so that other patients can reach the surgery they need.

Why She's Running for EEFA
“Access to the gold standard of care shouldn't depend on privilege, location, or insurance.”
Joella chose Endo Excision for All because the organization funds excision surgery for people with endometriosis who cannot otherwise afford it — and because the wait for insurance coverage, a referral, or a cost estimate is often the difference between treatment and another year of pain.
Endometriosis affects roughly 1 in 10 girls, women, and people assigned female at birth — around 190 million worldwide — yet the average delay to diagnosis runs seven to ten years, and even patients with insurance routinely hit out-of-network costs and coverage denials for the surgery that treats the disease.
Every dollar raised through Joella's run goes straight into surgery grants that move someone else across that finish line.

About Endo Excision for All
Endo Excision for All is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to ensuring every person with endometriosis can access gold-standard excision surgery, regardless of insurance status or financial means. Founded by Nicole Notar, who endured a decade of misdiagnoses before an excision specialist removed 73 endometriosis lesions covering her entire reproductive system and four other organs, our mission is to advocate for policy change to demand comprehensive insurance coverage, educate patients and providers, and fund patient surgeries until the system change happens.
By supporting Joella's 100-mile run, you help us dismantle medical bias, expand access to expert treatment, and change the landscape of endometriosis care for good.
Joella shares her own experience, and personal stories are not medical advice. If you are considering surgery or any treatment, talk with a qualified healthcare provider about what is right for you.
